Backstory

Hi, my name is Rayla Lightcatcher from the Moonwhisper Family. I am a Miqo'te born in Western Thanalan to a tribe located in Cape Westwind. I was born on the 31st Sun of the 5th Umbral Moon. I am 21 years old. I grew up in a warrior tribe in the cape. Our tribe consisted of hunters and gatherers to sustain our well-being. My father a ferocious warrior, and mother, a exquisite weaver, inspired me to always help others.As I grew up, our tribe was pushed out of our encampment by the imperial forces from Garlemald. Some of our tribes strongest members were taken captive. They were sent to Castrum Meridium.Our tribe was left in a weakened and powerless state to fight back. I was one of the only few members with the rage for revenge. I sought to find a way to gain strength to free my captured tribal members.I ran off and found refuge in Limsa Lominsa. While there, I requested aid from the Maelstrom. In order to gain aid, I had enlisted among their ranks. After a few years of rigorous and successful training I had become a Storm Captain within their ranks. My first assignment as Captain required me to lead troops into a Garlean stronghold in the Central Coerthas Highlands.During the mission, I had freed a group of enslaved Eorzeans. One of the Eorzeans was a frail Drago'te named Saphira, whom caught my eye. I could see she was scared; However, she was filled with rage toward the Empire, and showed an interest to fight. I took in her in and treated her as my sister. I saw myself in her. Over time, Saphira gave me the name “LightCatcher.” She explained that on the moonlit evening after she was rescued, she said the moons light caught and filled in my eyes. This gave her hope that one day she could see her family again, and enjoy the stars in the sky again.With training, Saphira has become my executive officer. With her by my side, I feel like I can achieve my goal of freeing my kidnapped tribal members. Some of our tribal member, who sought refuge in Costa Del Sol, call us the "Sisters of Light". We bring them hope of a better tomorrow. One day i will have my vengeance against all of the Garlean Empire.

With my "Sister" Saphira, and fellow companions in the Siren's Cove Free Company, I can now focus on completing my tasks of fighting off the Garlean Empire.Speaking of "Sisters", Saphira is a female Drago'te, who was saved by me during an attack on a Garlean stronghold. Although we both are always bickering between our opposite personalities, we have a bond that can never be broken.I love to play the music of my homelands.
